Trip to Europe 2011

For the Rail fan, the national railway museum started off the day. Amazing how many old engines and carraiges were saved. It was amazing to see some of the old King and Queens rail cars, with such tacky decor. The store room has more rail signs and gadgets then imaginable. It’s huge.

Museum Day. First went to the National Rail Museum, photos will be in the EU2011-4b post.

After, went to the York Castle Museum, a collection that was started by a guy in the 1920s of stuff people started to just throw away. He was smart enough to see that it was worth keeping for future generations. The collection is very eccletic, set rooms or home scenes from different times.

On the street on the way to dinner saw a confrontation on the street between 3 guys wearing older style suit jackets. It was like some amazing shakespeare live- where the one guy was asking the other not to have more drink, and the one that drank explaining how the problem was his own to deal with, blah blah, the show they were putting on was better than many a stage show, but is was actual life in action. They old english accent helping it along. I could not get the cam in movie mode quick enough, by the time i realised what was happening it was over!

At dinner at a place called Lucia… all 5 star reviews on trip adviser, yelp had only one review, 1 star, that said the risotto was crunchy. My risotto was crunchy. But the people watching great.

So no, no yorkshire pudding, and no yorkie dogs.

Travel day, after breakfast from mum and a cab ride to the station, hopped right on the Grand Central train to London. Then a walk from Kings Cross station all the way out to the station next door, to get through the chunnel. Then jumped on a german train with no euros to get to cologne, to switch really quick to a to get to wuppertal, but got on the milk run to it instead of the quicker train. Will know more about what wupper is when the sun comes out again. The sausalito was what was open for dinner after 22:00. And what it was… A chain trying to be like an american mexican chain like chevys- but german mexican. It is so yuck. Please, never again, i keep thinking of describing the food at this popular new thing, all i can say is spinach, nutmeg in a tortilla, yeah. Naus-e-a
